LEDs in illuminated advertising

LEDs in illuminated advertising - ideal for indoor & outdoor energy-efficient advertising. The LED (Light Emitting Diode) is one of the most important achievements of the twentieth century. Light sources such as fluorescent tubes or the classic incandescent bulb have become really tough competitors with the market conquest of the LED at the end of the 1990s.

LEDs are used wherever light and illumination play a role. Many German households are switching to energy-saving light bulbs and LEDs, and the illuminant has also long had a firm place in advertising technology, especially in the field of illuminated advertising. In this article, you will learn about the advantages of LEDs in light boxes and other applications, and which LED systems are used in illuminated advertising.

Made for light boxes - LEDs find their vocation

LED in der Leuchtwerbung

Exactly 20 years ago, the advertising technology industry, and with it dealers, service providers and many more, began to embrace LED. Since then, more and more illuminated frames and light boxes have been powered by the innovative technology, and the branch of the Digital signage has long since begun to equip systems with the technology. If one compares LED tubes with conventional fluorescent tubes, for example, it is not only the much longer service life that is decisive, they also score points with higher switching cycles and with considerably lower heating, not to mention the electricity cost savings that can be achieved with the help of LEDs. In the long term, illuminated advertising with the help of LEDs is a real must for all those who want to install more efficient advertising indoors and outdoors.

From LED chains to line spotlights

In outdoor advertising, but also indoors, we are encountering advertising systems and displays with innovative LED technology more and more often. LED strips are most frequently used, namely in light boxes and light frames. The high light output and the particularly thin design enable optimal illumination of surfaces. They are particularly popular in systems with aluminium profiles that provide optimal cooling performance. This makes them perfect for backlighting slides or so-called backlight foils. For large-area applications, so-called ED LED line lights are often used. They usually backlight double-sided foils and, like the strips, are usually recessed in the corresponding frame. Especially in the area of trade fair construction, LED panels are preferred for particularly large-area and flat backlighting, because they have a correspondingly high light output, which is indispensable for a complete trade fair stand, for example.

Would you have known: dreams of the future? - ganic LEDs already in use today

Have you heard of the OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diode)? The organic light-emitting diode is already considered a safe alternative to the classic LED. However, the technology has not yet been developed to the point where applications in the field of display and lighting can be completely replaced with the conventional LED. The difference to the LED is that the organic alternative can be used primarily as an area emitter. The light of an OLED is not only softer and more diffuse, it is also much richer in contrast than the classic light-emitting diode. Research is currently still working on improving the service life, which is still shorter than that of the LED. It is similar with the energy efficiency, here the LED is still more energy-saving than the organic model. Furthermore, research has set itself the task of optimising the manufacturing technology so as to make the technology more affordable for private consumption. OLEDs are already used in digital cameras, mobile phones and car radios.
